Explore the Special Sale
It is finally time for our first Special sale of the season – we present one of the leading figures of the Swedish 20th century art scene:
Lars Erik Falk – The art of balancing at 73 degrees
One of Sweden’s most acclaimed constructivist artists has passed away. This sensational Special sale contains 100 works from the artist’s estate, most of them have never before been offered for sale. The catalogue reflects an artist’s life from the 1940’s until today and includes some of Lars Erik Falk’s foremost paintings and sculptures, pieces that until recently were still residing in Lars Erik Falk’s home and studio in Sigtuna, which had remained virtually untouched and intact since he passed away in August 2018.
Sculptures in steel or aluminium profiles leaning in 73 degrees has become characteristic for Lars Erik Falk’s artistry. “I have chosen a position between the static 90 degrees and a position that is not perceived as falling. That provides me with a movement, and movement has always been one of my most important expressions.”
The auction includes many monumentally large sculptures with steel pipes and aluminium profiles but also earlier compositions in material such as steel, wood, marble and granite. The elegant leaning sculpture in white marble is one of the highlights in this sale (cat. no. 84), as well as several early sculptures and paintings from the 1940’s and 50’s (for example cat. no. 3, 13, 23, 35, 45 and 92). Several characteristic painted steel sculptures are also to be found in this sale, such as cat. no. 63 and 59. A common feature of his sculptures is a remarkable feeling of the importance of different materials, as well as compositions and proportions.
It is with great joy that we get to follow the exquisite lines and forms within Lars Erik Falk’s artistry – shapes that even after fifty years still feel innovative and timeless. The entire collection will be on view 13-18 February at Nybrogatan 20, Stockholm.
