The Neuman Collection is a Swedish Private collection including international modern art by some of the twentieth century’s most important artists; Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger and André Masson. The collection presents eleven significant works which illustrate the exquisite taste of one collector; Bertil Neuman (1921-2011).
Bertil Neuman had a great love for art and he was especially interested in international modern art. During longer business trips to London, Paris and New York he became a frequent visitor to well-known art galleries, exhibitions and auction houses. The collection which will now be offered for sale at Uppsala Auktionskammare shows Neumans great passion for art and collecting.
The collection includes no less than four important works by the foremost artist of the twentieth century, Pablo Picasso. The highlight of the collection is the oil painting Fillette au béret, a portrait of a young girl wearing a blue beret, painted by Picasso in 1964 and with an estimate of SEK 12.000.000 – 18.000.000 (approx. EUR 1.250.000 – 1.850.000). A majority of the works in the Neuman Collection, including the above-mentioned painting by Picasso, have originally been sold by Galerie Louise Leiris in Paris, one of the most influential art galleries in modern time.
The Neuman Collection will be offered for sale at a separate Evening Sale 7 December 2016 at 7 pm in Uppsala.
