Dado, or Miodrag Duric, was born in Montenegro in 1933. His early years left marks of the tragic war events which would affect his entire life and artistry. Seldom has this been more clearly expressed than in the current painting “La Guerre” (War) which is a master work from his early, possibly most interesting, period of the late 1950s. The artistic talent and creative skills showed early in Dado’s life and he was encouraged to further develop this ability which eventually led him to art studies in Serbia at the fine arts school of Belgrade.

In the year of 1956 Dado decided to relocate to Paris with the goal to become an independent artist. He got a job as a lithographer and worked hard to master the French language which in turn led him to acquaintances with other artists, like Kalinowski and Jean Dubuffet. The latter introduced Dado to his own dealer Daniel Cordier who organized an exhibition in his gallery in 1958 and continued working with Dado for all his remaining years in the gallery. Dado moved to the small French city of Hérouval and remained there with his family until passing away in 2010. Dado went through various styles during his active years, but the most sought after are clearly the surrealist influenced works of the 1950s and 1960s.

Today Dado is counted as the most well-known artist of Montenegro and one of few internationally known artists from the entire Balkan area.
