The collection of ARNE SÖRGÅRDS (1927‑2018)

To be sold at Uppsala Auktionskammare’s Important Sale Week 16-18 June 2020

“Arne Sörgård was born in Ålesund in Norway and came to Stockholm in the 1950’s. He studied to become a dentist and met his future wife Barbro in Stockholm. Later, the couple settled in Halmstad where Arne opened a dental practice. During this time they had three daughters. Arne’s brother Fredrik settled in Copenhagen and in the 1960’s, the two of them became interested in art. This is how they came in contact with Galerie Birch in Copenhagen. Børge Birch was famous for his interest in CoBrA artists including Asger Jorn, Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel and Corneille.

Arne also acquired art from Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet in Stockholm, a prominent art institution which introduced many French and Swedish artists to the Swedish art scene. He loved his beautiful Tylösand and frequently visited the golf course there. He also enjoyed skiing, carpentry and fishing salmon in Norway. Being a social person, he loved to throw great parties and he had a good singing voice. Upon his passing, Arne Sörgård owned a fine and interesting collection which will now be presented at Uppsala Auktionskammare’s Important sale in June 2020.”
