Holdo Strömwall (1883‑1979) and his wife Karin (1886‑1960’s). The couple married in 1917 and moved to Shanghai in 1922. Holdo, a Swedish businessman, worked for B Dieden & co, selling Swedish paper to China and later for Svenska Tändsticksbolaget (Swedish Match Company). He also worked for the trading company Gadelius. It was Karin who took a special interest in acquiring Chinese antiques and works of art. The couple stayed in China until 1939 when they returned to Sweden.
