During the 19th century, art shifted somewhat in character vis-á-vis the past. A growing bourgeoisie sought art to decorate their homes, and this lead to a blooming art market with different art schools, movements and styles. Thus, there are many high quality artworks from this period.

During this period the Swedish art developed its own distinctive character. At the end of the century the Nordic light became known to the world and the ABC artists (Anders Zorn, Bruno Liljefors and Carl Larsson) gained a prominent role. Uppsala Auktionskammare has over the years been entrusted to sell a number of very high quality works of classical Swedish art by the ABC artists. Other popular artists that reflects other artistic movements are August Strindberg, Ivan Aguéli, Ernst Josephson och Carl Fredrik Hill.

Classical sculpture includes all sculptures made before the 20th century. Signed decorative sculptures made by known artists and sculptures are sought after. Older unsigned sculptures that are decorative can also reach high values and are often in demand internationally. Most expensive at auctions are sculptures in bronze and marble.
